So it really is interesting trying to lose some weight. So far, knock on wood, I have managed to more or less keep to the diet of just cutting back on the portions rather than anything specific, like calorie counting or whatever.
In looking at this, I know I need to also exercise more and with a 9 month old pooch around, that perhaps should be easier to do than it is. I suppose part of it is being lazy, but also I think it is the conditioning.

No, not pumping iron conditioning but that of society itself. I mean somehow there just doesn’t seem to be time to get out and take the pooch out. Now Dave does in the morning but I kind of want to take to her out at night just never seems to be time.
By the time I get the next day’s groceries, do the after dinner routines, it is nearly time to head up and spend time with Mom. When that is over, time for Dave to head off to sleep for work in the morning. So I suppose I could go then, but I keep putting it off, and to be honest I would rather go with Dave along. Selfish I suppose but I do enjoy his company even though we been married for eons it seems.
Maybe I can get my fat ass in gear to re-arrange this so I can get out with the dog and Dave. Should help and somehow I figure I should too.
That is approximately the death toll in Lebanon versus the average monthly death toll in Iraq. So is the Israeli response dis proportionate or measured?
It amazes me how we equate this stuff to numbers to either shock people into action or to make meaningless comparisions to justify a policy choice. Ceasefire is being called for, but will that solve the problem over there? I mean come on, Israel pulled out over 20 years ago, over 2 years ago the UN Security Council demanded Hezbollah be disbanded by the Lebanese government, and yet how many rockets were fired into civilian compounds the other day by Hezbollah? 750? Disarmament my ass.
Why have a ceasfire? So Hezbollah can re-arm itself and reposition its missile launchers? This is really nuts to think that world leaders, all think that once the shooting starts, you need to call for a ceasefire. Maybe the answer is to stop meddling, and let them fight it out till the battle is decided. Time to finish this war on Terror and a ceasire only plays into the hands of the Terrorists.
I remember reading a Tom Clancy book where he quoted Marx or Lenin I think where they discussed detende and peace. To the USA it meant a time of increased prosperity and economic growth, to the communist Russians it meant a time to gather one’s strength for the final battle. To Terrorists, I tend to think that the latter definition is what they support and follow.
Lebanon is bleeding, but it is the Lebanese government & people who are to blame, for not disarming Hezbollah when they had a chance. Now they are paying the ultimate price for their follie. So too are the Palestinians in Gaza.
After all, electing a terrorist group as their Government? A group who proudly proclaims its ultimate mission is to wipe all Jews off the Middle East map? Same philosophy as Adolph Hitler and yet these people elected them? This is what you get, bombings and air strikes.
It is interesting to note that Franklin Roosevelt when asked about his Lend Lease policy, he answered, it is better to let Britain fight on no matter what, because in the end we will have to face the same enemy, and the more they destroy, the less we have to. Sort of think that is Bush’s strategy right now too. The more of these terrorists Israel puts out of action, the less the USA will face later on.
With the Middle East moving further into war and all that involves it is interesting to watch the free world react. It is amazing at how slowly they respond if the devastation is in Africa but when its the Jews doing something, boy can they be heard for miles.
I think you need to keep this whole Middle East debacle in perspective, something Jean Chretien managed when he spoke about the murder bombings that were going on, and when he spoke about Iraq. Poverty is a sore point that is not just easy cannon fodder for groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, but is also a breeding ground for discontent. Throw some good old fashioned hatred and racism into the mix, and you have the current Middle East theatre of war. ( see Sidney Morning Herald )
Now we also have the Prime Minister rushing to defend Israeli action and being a cynic I have to ask why. Is this in Canada’s best interest? I know, I am Jewish and personally I believe Israel needed to go after these terrorists. However, should our Prime Minister be so vehement and strident in his defence of Israel? The opposition doesn’t think so. ( see CBC story )
NDP Leader Jack Layton, who held a news conference in Ottawa on Tuesday, dismissed Harper’s position, saying Canada should call for an immediate ceasefire and quickly commit to a role in a future peacekeeping force.
“Mr. Harper needs to make clear that Canada is calling on all sides to implement a ceasefire now,” said Layton. ( CBC Story )
Mr Layton along with interim Liberal Graham seem to forget, there are THREE KIDNAPPED SOLDIERS MISSING. While a ceasefire would be nice, I think Mr Harper was actually right in his statment where he said things have to happen first before a ceasefire can be implemented and a peace keeping force can be established.
Speaking from France on Tuesday, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said he believes it is too early to send in such a force.
There are “several things that have to take place to bring about a ceasefire and for the ability to keep peace. And we are not very close to that possibility at the moment,” said Harper. ( CBC story )
First time I actually agree with Harper. Problem is I also happen to agree with the opposition but then I see Harper’s support merely parotting George Bush and kissing american ass in the process. I do not for one minute believe Mr Harper is sincere and is playing for the Jewish vote and campaign contributions that go with it.
Do we need to appear so balanced?
Remember, we do have troops in Afghanistan fighting and I think for the moment the opposition is right in that the rhetoric does need to be dialed down by Mr Harper. I also think though that sometimes you need to take sides, simply because it is the right thing to do.
This is an age old conflict rooted in racism as much as in poverty. Until those issues are at least addressed I fear we will see continued violence and bloodshed in the Middle East. It is a way of life there and as much as I would like to think you can talk some sense, do we want to talk to Terrorists?
If Lebanon seriously wished peace, why haven’t they disarmed Hezbolleh in the years since the last Israeli withdrawal? Why hasn’t Hamas moved quickly to guarantee the right of a sovereign nation to exist? If these people seriously want peace, compromise, then why haven’t they openly and actively supported anti terrorist measures and ended the constant threat of killing every last single Jew in the region?
Maybe taking sides doesn’t help, but maybe it does. Maybe if enough people stand up and are counted, the terrorists like Hamas will back down or at least realize that serious people oppose them.
Have to see how this plays out, but its not easy to watch.
