That is approximately the death toll in Lebanon versus the average monthly death toll in Iraq. So is the Israeli response dis proportionate or measured?
It amazes me how we equate this stuff to numbers to either shock people into action or to make meaningless comparisions to justify a policy choice. Ceasefire is being called for, but will that solve the problem over there? I mean come on, Israel pulled out over 20 years ago, over 2 years ago the UN Security Council demanded Hezbollah be disbanded by the Lebanese government, and yet how many rockets were fired into civilian compounds the other day by Hezbollah? 750? Disarmament my ass.
Why have a ceasfire? So Hezbollah can re-arm itself and reposition its missile launchers? This is really nuts to think that world leaders, all think that once the shooting starts, you need to call for a ceasefire. Maybe the answer is to stop meddling, and let them fight it out till the battle is decided. Time to finish this war on Terror and a ceasire only plays into the hands of the Terrorists.
I remember reading a Tom Clancy book where he quoted Marx or Lenin I think where they discussed detende and peace. To the USA it meant a time of increased prosperity and economic growth, to the communist Russians it meant a time to gather one’s strength for the final battle. To Terrorists, I tend to think that the latter definition is what they support and follow.
Lebanon is bleeding, but it is the Lebanese government & people who are to blame, for not disarming Hezbollah when they had a chance. Now they are paying the ultimate price for their follie. So too are the Palestinians in Gaza.
After all, electing a terrorist group as their Government? A group who proudly proclaims its ultimate mission is to wipe all Jews off the Middle East map? Same philosophy as Adolph Hitler and yet these people elected them? This is what you get, bombings and air strikes.
It is interesting to note that Franklin Roosevelt when asked about his Lend Lease policy, he answered, it is better to let Britain fight on no matter what, because in the end we will have to face the same enemy, and the more they destroy, the less we have to. Sort of think that is Bush’s strategy right now too. The more of these terrorists Israel puts out of action, the less the USA will face later on.
