The news this weekend is that Israel might accept international peace keepers between the Israel and Lebanon border.
Israel’s Defence Minister says his country would accept a temporary international force along the Lebanese border. ( See Story )
Appears that Uncle George is talking with the Israeli’s about it but one has to wonder about the effectiveness of any force. I mean there already is one there, the United Nations even passed one of its many security resolutions giving the Lebanese Government orders to disarm Hezbollah. We have seen how well that has worked, so again, should there be a ceasefire?
What advantages does a ceasefire give anyone?
As heartless as it might seem, does it solve anything? Will Hezbollah honor it or will they use it to ingrate themselves further into Lebanese governmental affairs and eventually cause the destruction of the Lebanese state itself? Can anyone disarm Hezbollah under a ceasefire to insure that peace continues once the fighting ends?
Will a ceasefire effect the release of two kidnapped Israeli soldiers?
There has been a great deal of bloodshed spilt already, but will a ceasefire prevent more? Somehow I just don’t see how and I wonder, are we perhaps simply trying to put a Genie back in its bottle for another day instead of being serious about establishing Peace in the region?
