Outrage At Displacement & Deaths

I suppose that maybe I am a bit jaded these days, however it galls me to listen to some politicians. I mean Secretary of State Rice made a surprise visit to Beirut and told the Prime Minister the United States has concern for the displaced and dead in the latest Middle East war.

The fighting came as U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived in the region, making an unannounced stop in Beirut, where she met Lebanon’s Prime Minister Fuad Saniora. Rice expressed concern for Lebanese suffering, and the United States said it would give $30 million to aid in the country’s recovery. “Thank you for your courage and steadfastness,” she told Saniora.  ( see Story )

Now I don’t know, but let me see, this all started this go round because Hezbollah was firing off rockets into Israel for the last few years, and then to top it all off, went and kidnapped two Israeli soldiers. All the time that they were doing this, the United Nations had passed security resolution after resolution requiring the Lebanese Government to disarm Hezbollah.

And here is the Great USA thanking Lebanon for its steadfastness? What, they ignored the United Nations and did absolutely nothing about disarming Hezbollah. As a direct result of their own inaction, war is now spreading across their country and so the greatest Democracy ever thanks them?

Give me a damn break.

I just don’t get it. I mean this war is as much their own fault as Hezbollah for their inability to disarm terrorists. Worse, three of their government ministers are members of the political wing of Hezbollah. So Rice thanks Lebanon? For what?

Causing another Middle East war?

Then of course we have the whining about nearly 380 dead Lebanese killed by Air strikes and Artillery shelling. I would say given the amount of artillery shells sent to Lebanon plus the continuous Air strikes, that Israel has shown a great deal of accuracy and restrain. I mean come on, it isn’t easy to target building like they have and not have incidental damage and deaths, yet the Lebanese Prime Minister complains about 380 dead.

But the visit was tense. Saniora angrily laid out the damage to his country, including about 380 people killed and about 750,000 displaced, and said the Israeli bombing had set Lebanon back 50 years, the prime minister’s office said. (see Story)

I wonder how many incidental deaths there would be if it was the vaunted United States doing the air strikes and shelling? Few thousand perhaps?

Don’t get me wrong, any deaths are horrible, but let’s call a spade a spade. The deaths of Lebanese and those rushing to hide in Syria is due to Hezbollah attacks and worse, Lebanese Government inaction. If anyone is truly to blame for these deaths it really is the Lebanese government.

It seems to just come back down to the simple fact. The USA is once again meddling. Why don’t they do something right and force Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah. I mean not like they are careful on where their rockets land, now are they?

More than 80 rockets crashed into northern Israel as of Monday evening, wounding about 20 people, the military said. The rockets again touched off brush fires, turning the clear summer sky gray with smoke in the town of Kiryat Shemona, which was hit by a heavy barrage in the afternoon. ( see Story )

I suppose this is what they mean when they talk about the Fog of War. I wonder though, if it wasn’t a bunch of Jews doing the attacking, would the USA be so genial with Lebanon? Maybe the Lebanese Prime Minister bought Bush a new sweater like Tony Blair did?
