The Truly Great Debating Society

by fictionteller — Categories: Rambling On, World ViewLeave a comment

The United Nations and most of the World Leaders today are up in arms, demanding and calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East conflict. They are so fired up that many are considering the Lebanese plea to let Lebanon send in 15000 troops right now to stand between Israel and Hezbollah and end this intense fight.

The Final Soltion is one step closer too.

Hitler would be clapping and prancing like a schoolboy if he were alive today listening to the absolute bullshit coming from the Great Debate Society. The Lebanese are hurting and aid for basic medicine and food is hard to get in, well, TOUGH.  Didn’t see any such concern for those starving in Dachau or Auschwitz.

If Hezbollah truly wishes a ceasefire, let them give back the two kidnapped soldiers that started this latest bullshit. Let the Lebanese Army go searching for them and bring them home safe and sound, or better yet, maybe the Lebanese Army should do what it was committed to do, nearly two years ago by this very same Debating Society, the United Nations.

Kofi Anon is to be replaced soon, why not put Wolf Blitzer or some other self serving advertising agent in charge, as it truly won’t matter who is in charge, as long as they can moderate a debate among conniving children well. Wolf Blitzer should be able to manage that, if not get Larry King. Both are as capable as Kofi Annon at managing the United Nations.

To begin with why is the United Nations so insistent on a ceasefire? I mean there isn’t one in Iraq is there? There is what, 100 people or more dying there daily. Bombs explode daily so why isn’t the United Nations seeking a ceasefire there with the Iraq version of Hezbollah? Oh wait, the United States is doing the war so I guess that is hands off. Just as it was hands off in Chetchyna and the Russians.

The United Nations has meddled and does nothing. If it truly wishes to make peace in the Middle East, then why doesn’t it push to get the refugee camps eliminated? Why doesn’t it get the Arab League to spend its money on food and jobs for those in the refugee camps instead of for Katusha Rockets for its poor Lebanese brethern, Hezbollah.

In Consider This, I think its clear that when you spend 58 years surrounded by people who hate you, who want to see you dead, you really have no choice at times but to lash back out. Israel is now Fort Masada and maybe history buffs should read up on it. There will be surrender, no calm walk into disguised gas chambers this time around.

The world failed Jews in the 1930/1940′s and so Israel came into being.

Just like then, today the world is dealing with a group who are dedicated to one absolute goal, the Final Solution as they call it, which is in essence the killing of all Jews in Israel. To them any land occupied by Israel is Arab territory and so their rationale is that they will take it and let the blood of dead Jews run into the Ocean. They do not want peace, not as we envision peace. (Consider This article)

Once more the United Nations is showing its inability to mediate a peaceful solution. Naturally the resolution is biased as it should be. The Lebanese had over two years to neuter Hezbollah and now they are part of the Lebanese Government. ( See the Guilty Plea article )

15,000 or 150,000 will make no difference really. The Lebanese Army is HEZBOLLAH or at best, a supporter of them. How does that protect Israel? All it does is make achieving peace harder in the region, throwing one more roadblock before the Israeli’s so they are unable to effectively defend their own country.

That is what is at stake here. Israel wants peace, but not at any price, not at the price of its very own existence. Screw the Arab League and the United Nations. End this war by letting it go to its finish. If Lebanon exists afterwards, great. If not, well it is their own fault. They are the ones harbouring Hezbollah, supporting them and allowing them replenishment and such. So if they want peace, let the Lebanese Army fight Hezbollah and do what it was asked and requested to do TWO YEARS AGO!

DISARM HEZBOLLAH!

They’ll Love Us When We Win…

by fictionteller — Categories: Rambling On, World ViewLeave a comment

It is an interesting line from the 3rd season of West Wing that I watched this afternoon that got me thinking. We all know how dangerous that is too! Yet the episode was about a speech the President was to make to the United Nations and how it basically pulled no punches which reminded me of George Bush and his infamous, ‘Either your are with us or you aren’t” line that got so many’s hackles up.

Though it is that line from a television show that I think maybe explains why so many outside the United States are not exactly supporters of the USA no matter really who is President. See, to me that line rather sums it up, that within the USA there is this perception that they have the best in Democracy and that somehow, it is their obligation to establish their brand of Democracy and Freedom everywhere, no matter the consequences.

And there is the rub.

While it is just a television show, I think it shows exactly the current dogma that most USA citizens seem to have, which might explain some of the mess in the Middle East. See, it is that which leads people like perhaps the Saudis and the more moderates to discount the USA.

Then too, putting this into perspective. So the USA wins, you won in Iraq, you established a democracy and how is that working right now?

100 Iraqis killed daily by bombings and assorted kidnappings that seem to make Dodge in the Old West seem like a Church Social. So while it may seem like many in the USA buy into the line, reality is a bit different. USA has won the war, but if anything terrorism is on the rise and world confrontation is growing and yet no one in the Greatest Democracy Ever seem to fathom the rising hatred that is out there.

I don’t know, but even I would not want the USA to dictate to me how my country should be, and we are supposed to be neighbours and friends. So how do you think enemies or opponents are going to feel? It is not up to any Super Power to dictate or forment these issues, not if they wish to remain a superpower, and frankly given the restraints on the USA these days, are they a superpower?

Okay maybe in their own minds, but certainly not in the Middle East or Europe or really anywhere. Iran is thumbing its nose at them, North Korea, China and everywhere, even Mexico.

So when does the coffee kick in and America wake up

Why Same Sex Marraige

by fictionteller — Categories: Rambling On, World ViewLeave a comment

I was curious as to what people thought about having the right to marry someone of the same gender. Hence the little poll to the right of this blog which you can vote in if you wish. It really isn’t all that scientific or anything but its interesting to note that there are some who are unsure. Others who are opposed as well.

Which brings me up to why I believe in it, and also why I am married to Dave.

Sure there is the economic considerations to take into account. I mean you get a tax credit to begin with which is nice. You also are eligible for the survivor benefits should death come knocking too. As a couple there is a lower BC Medical premium as well. So yeah there are plenty of economic reasons why Gays should consider marraige and why that ability should be given to all citizens of a country.

This just isn’t about religion.

Being married doesn’t give you special admission to Heaven or to any Church either. In fact most will reject you simply because you are Gay, never mind being married to one.

Having this ability also doesn’t mean that the Priest in the fancy cathedral HAS to perform your ceremony either. Nor does it force any PASTOR, RABBI, or IMMAN to grant you God’s Blessings if they don’t wish to.

Two guys being married will NOT change how some straight guy makes out with his female partner. Nor will it alter how many kids are born to neglectful abusing parents either. It won’t change the population growth or lack of it either.

It will however give someone who loves you very much the right to know what is wrong with you if you get rushed to a hospital, no matter what.

It does mean that family who you have not seen in decades have NO SAY in your medical treatment or in dividing up your estate should you pass on. It doesn’t revert to the state either if you don’t have a will, but will go to the person you shared your life with.

It won’t cure AIDS or make people more mindful of the Ten Commandments, though so far Gay divorce in countries that have same sex marraige are seing less than a 5% rate while the straight community tops 60% in many countries. Odd isn’t it?

I suppose part of that is due to the fact that maybe you respect something more when you have to literally fight for it. Straights have never had to fight for that right, which perhaps is one reason why over half have little if any respect for it at all.

Then there is the intangible reasons.

Funny how a single piece of paper can mean the difference between life and death or intolerance and acceptance. Thing is though, a marraige license is just that a piece of paper. Yet it has almost magical powers for some.

Consider that with all the news about gay bashings, about political candidates equating homosexual groups with pandering to pedophiles, what that piece of paper could mean to an impressionable teenager.

Think of them for a second. Think about how they trudge off to today’s schools and listen to all the bullshit from the homophobes like teachers and parents groups. Imagine how depressed they must feel or worse how shameful they begin to feel when everyone around them tells them they are second class and unworthy of equal rights. Imagine how the bullies tease them endlessly not because they have a deformidy or skin color difference either, but because they like other guys.

Look at the language and all the slang words for them. Fudge Packer, Pufter, Fag, Corn Holer, Cock Sucker, and on the list goes. Imagine how they feel and then imagine how they feel when their own government, sworn to protect all minorities, goes out of its way to further their second class status.

That is what is happening in the United States now, yet look at countries where the governments have done the right thing. Look up here to Canada where no matter how bad it is in school for these kids, least they can point to that piece of paper and KNOW they aren’t second class. Least they can see that they have nothing to feel ashamed of because their own Government has said they are equal and shown it in more than words. Their own Government has shown in with a simple piece of paper, something called a marraige license.

No it won’t stop the hatred or the ridicule but it does at least give them something to fight back with.

It Gives Them Hope for Tomorrow.

What does ‘climate’ and ‘porn’ have in common?

by fictionteller — Categories: Rambling On, World ViewLeave a comment

Damned if I know, but here is the headline of an article I saw from the BBC.

Media attacked for ‘climate porn’ (see story)

In fact, after reading the article, it appears that this writer is attacking the media for how it portrays climate today, using histrionics and graphical depictions to highlight the need for concern. In short it is attacking the way the media is attempting to get us common people to give a damn about the climate.

While I tend to agree that the media does hype stuff up and uses images that are extreme in the most part to get their point across, isn’t the author doing the same here? I mean the headline really has nothing to do about PORN really, nor does the implication raised have much to do with porn. I mean porn isn’t about making people feel helpless, sad, or disheartened. Least not the stuff I have seen.

So kind of like the kettle calling the pot black here.

Not Supposed To Tell

by fictionteller — Categories: It's About Sex, Rambling OnLeave a comment

The Secret is one of those books that I find interesting, both from the standpoint of being the author and also from being Gay in todays supposed kindler world.

gay fiction book

What with attacks on Impersonators like in New York not to long ago or the recent baseball bashing of 3 guys leaving San Diego Gay Pride, I think books or stories like this are more relevent than ever. Sure it is fiction but it is real.

Too many today look at being gay as a choice, and frankly we all know that is just bullshit. It is no more a choice than being dark skinned is. The problem is of course that when you are forced to keep who you really are a secret, there are those who prey on that fact. One reason why I suppose I am a bit vocal on pushing for Same Sex Marraige rights in the States.
And that leads us to this story. It is about just that, and frankly I think it is one of my best. Yes it is indeed a bit long, as the book does print out to over 1300 pages, but it is a story I think that is very relevent today.

I hope you will take a peek at this novel, as it does give some insight as to why many pedophiles target boys too. It gives a bit of comparison on what it means to be a parent and a little insight into being a Jewish parent. Rather appropriate given todays situation in the Middle East.

I think this is a tough novel to read, for many gays, as many have been abused at some point in their life. Some might not truly recognize that or wish to, so this can be a rather difficult book to get through. Yet in all honesty it is a story we need to hear and who knows, maybe it will make some understand us all just a bit better.
