Will of the People or Presidential Aspirations?

by fictionteller — Categories: Rambling On, World ViewLeave a comment

For someone who has aspirations to be President, Mitt Romney seems to forget that the will of the people should take precedence over his zeal to force Gays back into the closet and worse. Seems that while the state legislature has yet to decide on whether a ballot to deny Gays the equal right to marriage he thinks the courts should force the issue.

(Boston, Massachusetts) Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney asked the state’s highest court Friday for an order placing a proposed amendment that would ban same-sex marriage on the ballot without the approval of the legislature. (full story)

Odd isn’t it? Here is a man who yelled the loudest when the court ruled Gays were entitled to those rules, calling them activists and worse. Yet here he is asking them to deny the people a say in that by going over the heads of his own legislature. Like how is that not activism?

How many times has this homophobe stumped around the country calling the judges activists and demanding that the will of the people be heard? Now here he is, trying to by pass the people’s elected representatives because they are not rushing to put a measure on the ballot. Odd isn’t it, but then he is supposedly planning to run for President and I guess we all know what his platform is.  To deny equal rights and to revert back to the stone age era.

Don’t really understand what the hold up is, though it would seem that some verification of all those names would be in order. After all it is easy to fake and then too, just who is paying for all these petition gatherings? Same bloke from Colorado? (see comment)

All this political nonsense aside, I wonder. What is it about someone being Gay that makes for such a political hot bed of discussion? I mean what is it really that they fear? I don’t get it and yet today when you listen to potential candidates for 2008 their stand on Gay Rights seems to be of great interest. I wonder why? It makes no sense given all the other issues out there that one would think were a tad more urgent?

Like how about the War in Iraq?

If that wasn’t enough to keep them talking, then what about the failed war on Drugs or the Illegal Immigration debacle? I mean how does Gay’s seeking equality make or break a politician? If you listen to people like Obama or McCain you wonder too, just where does the difference in political parties exist? The cloakroom?

Seems to me that these candidates and news media types should worry more about the life and death issues to determine who is best equipped to serve, than whether they support gay rights. Though in all honesty, I have to say that no politician should be given a shot at winning if they oppose simple equality for all. There should be no equivocation on that, least not in a democracy. Then too, one has to wonder, is the United States a democracy or an extension of some secret religious group?
