They’ll Love Us When We Win…

by fictionteller — Categories: Rambling On, World ViewLeave a comment

It is an interesting line from the 3rd season of West Wing that I watched this afternoon that got me thinking. We all know how dangerous that is too! Yet the episode was about a speech the President was to make to the United Nations and how it basically pulled no punches which reminded me of George Bush and his infamous, ‘Either your are with us or you aren’t” line that got so many’s hackles up.

Though it is that line from a television show that I think maybe explains why so many outside the United States are not exactly supporters of the USA no matter really who is President. See, to me that line rather sums it up, that within the USA there is this perception that they have the best in Democracy and that somehow, it is their obligation to establish their brand of Democracy and Freedom everywhere, no matter the consequences.

And there is the rub.

While it is just a television show, I think it shows exactly the current dogma that most USA citizens seem to have, which might explain some of the mess in the Middle East. See, it is that which leads people like perhaps the Saudis and the more moderates to discount the USA.

Then too, putting this into perspective. So the USA wins, you won in Iraq, you established a democracy and how is that working right now?

100 Iraqis killed daily by bombings and assorted kidnappings that seem to make Dodge in the Old West seem like a Church Social. So while it may seem like many in the USA buy into the line, reality is a bit different. USA has won the war, but if anything terrorism is on the rise and world confrontation is growing and yet no one in the Greatest Democracy Ever seem to fathom the rising hatred that is out there.

I don’t know, but even I would not want the USA to dictate to me how my country should be, and we are supposed to be neighbours and friends. So how do you think enemies or opponents are going to feel? It is not up to any Super Power to dictate or forment these issues, not if they wish to remain a superpower, and frankly given the restraints on the USA these days, are they a superpower?

Okay maybe in their own minds, but certainly not in the Middle East or Europe or really anywhere. Iran is thumbing its nose at them, North Korea, China and everywhere, even Mexico.

So when does the coffee kick in and America wake up

Why Same Sex Marraige

by fictionteller — Categories: Rambling On, World ViewLeave a comment

I was curious as to what people thought about having the right to marry someone of the same gender. Hence the little poll to the right of this blog which you can vote in if you wish. It really isn’t all that scientific or anything but its interesting to note that there are some who are unsure. Others who are opposed as well.

Which brings me up to why I believe in it, and also why I am married to Dave.

Sure there is the economic considerations to take into account. I mean you get a tax credit to begin with which is nice. You also are eligible for the survivor benefits should death come knocking too. As a couple there is a lower BC Medical premium as well. So yeah there are plenty of economic reasons why Gays should consider marraige and why that ability should be given to all citizens of a country.

This just isn’t about religion.

Being married doesn’t give you special admission to Heaven or to any Church either. In fact most will reject you simply because you are Gay, never mind being married to one.

Having this ability also doesn’t mean that the Priest in the fancy cathedral HAS to perform your ceremony either. Nor does it force any PASTOR, RABBI, or IMMAN to grant you God’s Blessings if they don’t wish to.

Two guys being married will NOT change how some straight guy makes out with his female partner. Nor will it alter how many kids are born to neglectful abusing parents either. It won’t change the population growth or lack of it either.

It will however give someone who loves you very much the right to know what is wrong with you if you get rushed to a hospital, no matter what.

It does mean that family who you have not seen in decades have NO SAY in your medical treatment or in dividing up your estate should you pass on. It doesn’t revert to the state either if you don’t have a will, but will go to the person you shared your life with.

It won’t cure AIDS or make people more mindful of the Ten Commandments, though so far Gay divorce in countries that have same sex marraige are seing less than a 5% rate while the straight community tops 60% in many countries. Odd isn’t it?

I suppose part of that is due to the fact that maybe you respect something more when you have to literally fight for it. Straights have never had to fight for that right, which perhaps is one reason why over half have little if any respect for it at all.

Then there is the intangible reasons.

Funny how a single piece of paper can mean the difference between life and death or intolerance and acceptance. Thing is though, a marraige license is just that a piece of paper. Yet it has almost magical powers for some.

Consider that with all the news about gay bashings, about political candidates equating homosexual groups with pandering to pedophiles, what that piece of paper could mean to an impressionable teenager.

Think of them for a second. Think about how they trudge off to today’s schools and listen to all the bullshit from the homophobes like teachers and parents groups. Imagine how depressed they must feel or worse how shameful they begin to feel when everyone around them tells them they are second class and unworthy of equal rights. Imagine how the bullies tease them endlessly not because they have a deformidy or skin color difference either, but because they like other guys.

Look at the language and all the slang words for them. Fudge Packer, Pufter, Fag, Corn Holer, Cock Sucker, and on the list goes. Imagine how they feel and then imagine how they feel when their own government, sworn to protect all minorities, goes out of its way to further their second class status.

That is what is happening in the United States now, yet look at countries where the governments have done the right thing. Look up here to Canada where no matter how bad it is in school for these kids, least they can point to that piece of paper and KNOW they aren’t second class. Least they can see that they have nothing to feel ashamed of because their own Government has said they are equal and shown it in more than words. Their own Government has shown in with a simple piece of paper, something called a marraige license.

No it won’t stop the hatred or the ridicule but it does at least give them something to fight back with.

It Gives Them Hope for Tomorrow.

What does ‘climate’ and ‘porn’ have in common?

by fictionteller — Categories: Rambling On, World ViewLeave a comment

Damned if I know, but here is the headline of an article I saw from the BBC.

Media attacked for ‘climate porn’ (see story)

In fact, after reading the article, it appears that this writer is attacking the media for how it portrays climate today, using histrionics and graphical depictions to highlight the need for concern. In short it is attacking the way the media is attempting to get us common people to give a damn about the climate.

While I tend to agree that the media does hype stuff up and uses images that are extreme in the most part to get their point across, isn’t the author doing the same here? I mean the headline really has nothing to do about PORN really, nor does the implication raised have much to do with porn. I mean porn isn’t about making people feel helpless, sad, or disheartened. Least not the stuff I have seen.

So kind of like the kettle calling the pot black here.

It is Life

by fictionteller — Categories: Rambling On, World ViewLeave a comment

I guess maybe I am tired. The heat and worrying about what the tests will show have me on edge, or perhaps it is simply the disintegration of life as i know it that has me feeling angry and upset. Maybe it is times like this I should walk away from the computer but then, that just isn’t me.

Too many deaths when people should be waking up to enjoy life, not burying next of kin. Too many bombs going off instead of people jostling for the morning coffee.  Seems that as each day passes, things don’t improve but worsen.

I know that many in the Middle East are tired of war, yet are powerless to gain peace. Even as we right this some rocket is being fired off against Israel, some artillery shell is being aimed at Lebanon. It just never ends and everyone wants to blame the other. ( see my Gay Talk Blog, Consider This )

Hell even I get tired of all this and yes, in all honesty neither side has behaved like mentshe (gentlement) and it seems that the lust for blood is too much for common sense. Personally who cares if there is another Arab state? I think they should have it and let’s end this bullshit. Course, what they agreed to as boundaries last year isn’t what they want this year, so I guess the war will continue there.

I think too that the blood lust is so great that even outsiders are willing to wage a war for something that really no one knows or understands. I mean remember the IRA? Can anyone today tell me what that was ever really about? Just Protestant against Catholic and we call ourselves Civilized?

It’s amazing really but you know, it reminds me too of a passage in an old movie. Shoes of the Fisherman. It starred Anthony Quinn and was written by Morris West. In the movie and book there is this scene, where the new Pope ( a Russian) is in a tenanent house, giving last rites more or less to a dying old Jewish man. The son or relative turns to the Pope and says:

It isn’t the dying we mind so much, it is the living that defeats us.

Maybe that is it in a nutshell. Is this a test by God to see where we stack up in the after life? I don’t know, all I know is that I am tired of death even as it comes closer for me. I guess I am an idealist and I wonder why when people are starving they support people who instead of buying food, buy Katusha Rockets or AK47′s?

Just makes no sense to me.

Whatever happened to the old cliche of ‘turning the other cheek’? Today we pass laws banning a minority from enjoying the same rights we do, we have a President who openly says he’ll defy the will of congress thru 800 signing statements and no one complains? I don’t get it, as we parse words (thanks Bill Clinton for that one) about whether it is civil war or getting close.

Fact is, people are dying because of religious differencs at the rate of 100 a day. Do you think their families care what label you put on it?

The world is nuts so I have to realize I can’t change it, but I can maybe make it a bit brighter. So I think we shall write a new erotic story to post here and who knows, maybe a few minutes of R&R will help ease some of that tension. Maybe it will help make the living not so awful.

Simple Solution

by fictionteller — Categories: Rambling On, World ViewLeave a comment

Given all the anxst over the latest bloodshed between Israel and its Arab neighbours, the accusations of deliberate bombings by Israel of UN Observer Posts, the wrangling among allies on how best to get a ceasefire, the anger by the Arabs over the supposed favoritism of America over Israel perhaps there should be a simple solution instead of all this constant inaction and bickering.

Let Israel Die.

Really, I am serious. I mean if Israel is truly the bad buy, the Aggressor (as the Iraqi Prime Minister suggests) then be done with such a troublesome country. Let Hamas have its way or that of Hezbollah and Syria and Iran and yes even the Saudis. Let them fund a multi national Arab army to attack and destroy Israel.

Let them send countless rockets into the cities and small towns to kill Jews. Let this force no longer sneak in the dead of night to slit Jew throats, let them go after them with good old fashioned tanks and guns bought by oil money. You know, the same money that bought George Bush the White House? I mean after all, these nations are Staunch Allies and should be allowed to clean up the nasty mess created by that horrible murderous bully Israel. Besides, they are just Jews.

The world knows how to deal with them. If you can’t gas them into extinction, you can at least terrorize them for 58 years and when that doesn’t work, well send in the armies of the Arab republics. Only this time, don’t stop the fighting, let it go on till they finally defeat the Israel Defence Force and so can then move into the wipe up phase, by shooting and killing innocent children.

No more sneaking one or two hardened heroes in to bomb nightclubs and cafes. Send in whole battalions of bomb strapped fanatics to go into every store, every school, every bulding and get all them nasty bullying Jews. I mean what good are they anyhow, so what if Christ was a Jew, not like he cares, he’s dead now and its up to the Holy Father in Rome to decide what is best. After all he has first hand knowledge of how to deal with Jews, he was in the German Army during WWII so he should have some idea or more.

Now course them Jews are stiff necked and stubborn. After all 58 years of being hounded, isolated, ostracized and admonished along with daily attacks and threats of attacks hasn’t stopped them, but this ultimate plan should. It is a matter of numbers, so just keep on pouring more fuel onto the fire. Get the United Nations Secretrary General to try and erode public opinion by suggesting Israel attacked deliberately UN Observers. Don’t mind that the very same organization demanded disarmament of the Heroes of this latest war, and were ignored. Never mind that in Iraq today after liberation nearly 100 Iraqi’s a day are killed by other Iraqi’s. Its the Jews fault anyhow so end this simply, go in and destroy them.

Mind you after what, 3 full out wars Israel grew in territory so maybe this time, the USA should join in too. They got lots of experience at invasion lately so they could help. And hey they have troops right nearby. I mean they are helping rush aid to those poor freedom fighters right now even. Nothing like patching up those poor Hezbollah fighters so they can go launch a few more rockets into civilian zones until the big push comes.

It is a world of Finger Pointing.

So how about we go back to 1948 when all this started. After all doesn’t blame belong on those who create the problem and not just those who have to live with it?  So go back to 1948 when Israel was made a state and every single Arab nation of the day went to war against this tiny state. The world stood by as the ill trained ill equipped Israelis stood their ground and held them back. They even managed to carve a road to keep Jeruselem supplied but hey, that is what you get for being stubborn. Sometimes you really do move mountains.

So go back to 1948 when the Arab leaders then, and today promised their people free land once they killed every single living Jew there. Course the IDF had other plans and still does. So maybe an all out offensive against them won’t work. Though you would think that after 58 years those crazy Jews would have had enough and moved on.

Maybe instead of an all out attack, maybe, we rethink this. Maybe, just maybe we start using our fucking heads and realize that Israel is there to stay and will continue to fight those who want to kill them. Maybe then we can find peace by forcing weak whining cowards to disappear from the political stage and start dealing in truth and honesty instead of semantics and what is or isn’t politically correct bullshit.

Perhaps one day the world will hear what the Israeli’s have said from the doorways of the ovens at Buchenwald, from the graveyards of Auschwitz and from the holy ground of Masada, that they WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT ANYMORE!

Perhaps the world will stop worrying about fueling its air conditioners and luxury SUVs long enough to see that in 1956, 1967, 1973, Israel is not a weak foe waiting to be killed, but is a force willing to fight for what it believes in.

GO HOME MALIK FROM IRAQ

GO HOME CONDALEZA RICE

GO HOME KOFFI ANON

JEWS WILL NO LONGER STAND BY TO BE LED TO THE GAS CHAMBERS OF YOUR WORLD. THEY WILL FIGHT UNTIL YOU KILL THEM ALL.

and The Noose Gets Tighter…

by fictionteller — Categories: Bite Me!, Rambling On, World ViewLeave a comment

Ever since George Bush seized power and his Republicans gained control over American politics, the noose on human rights continues to get tighter. It is almost like a concerted effort to not just knock back some rights, but to actually obliterate them so they can never make a comeback.

The passage of a sex crime database bill is just one more in a long line of legislation that on the surface is fine and dandy and appears to favour children. I mean we are all for protecting kids, except maybe many parents. That’s for a different post, but it amazes me how in the name of keeping kids safe, they are willing to through others to the lions, so to speak.

For example, if an 18 year old is charged with rape and convicted they are listed as a sex offender. Makes sense but if the girl was 16 or 17 and it was consentual, how is that Rape, yet in many states it is. So here we have a kid serving time and forced to register as a sex offender when in reality he was simply a horny normal teenager who ran afoul of some irate parent and over zealous prosecutor. So now this kid is suddenly a target for any zealot who things they should be God’s avenging angel. ( Gay Persuasion )

If it isn’t about sex, then its about abortion. Call me crazy but now once more the attack on Woman and their right of choice is again being widdled away with the passage of a Bill making it illegal for anyone to help a pregnant teen cross a state line for an abortion. ( see CBS Story )

With many states now passing tougher abortion laws, this is just one more step towards a return to the dark ages when women were desperate and sought out abortions in back rooms and alleys. It is also a way to salve those states who think the federal government is too lax on abortion.

In short this is about politics, not helping a teenager.

Democrats complained that the measure was the latest in a series of bills designed chiefly to energize the GOP’s base of conservative voters.

“Congress ought to have higher priorities than turning grandparents into criminals,” said Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass.  ( CBS Story )

I don’t know but given how many parents constantly blame others for their child’s rotten behaviour, to make them determine if their kid can bring another into the world is merely adding fuel to the fire it seems. I suppose being male I have a different take than most, but it would seem to me that any kid who is willing to go out of state to end their pregnancy should not be forced to have that kid in the first place.

What about grandparents who take the child across state lines because mommy is a drug addict or the parents are abusive? Where are the safeguards here?

That really is the whole trouble it seems, as once more Politics takes precedence over honest government. Mind you, the more I see the less of a difference I see between a Democrat and a Republican. They are both on the God Bandwagon simply to get votes. Whatever happened to speaking to the issues and not pandering to self interest here?

I guess its simply they love the money and power that comes from being a Congressperson or Senator and to hell with the people and their needs.

Outrage At Displacement & Deaths

by fictionteller — Categories: Bite Me!, Rambling On, World ViewLeave a comment

I suppose that maybe I am a bit jaded these days, however it galls me to listen to some politicians. I mean Secretary of State Rice made a surprise visit to Beirut and told the Prime Minister the United States has concern for the displaced and dead in the latest Middle East war.

The fighting came as U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived in the region, making an unannounced stop in Beirut, where she met Lebanon’s Prime Minister Fuad Saniora. Rice expressed concern for Lebanese suffering, and the United States said it would give $30 million to aid in the country’s recovery. “Thank you for your courage and steadfastness,” she told Saniora.  ( see Story )

Now I don’t know, but let me see, this all started this go round because Hezbollah was firing off rockets into Israel for the last few years, and then to top it all off, went and kidnapped two Israeli soldiers. All the time that they were doing this, the United Nations had passed security resolution after resolution requiring the Lebanese Government to disarm Hezbollah.

And here is the Great USA thanking Lebanon for its steadfastness? What, they ignored the United Nations and did absolutely nothing about disarming Hezbollah. As a direct result of their own inaction, war is now spreading across their country and so the greatest Democracy ever thanks them?

Give me a damn break.

I just don’t get it. I mean this war is as much their own fault as Hezbollah for their inability to disarm terrorists. Worse, three of their government ministers are members of the political wing of Hezbollah. So Rice thanks Lebanon? For what?

Causing another Middle East war?

Then of course we have the whining about nearly 380 dead Lebanese killed by Air strikes and Artillery shelling. I would say given the amount of artillery shells sent to Lebanon plus the continuous Air strikes, that Israel has shown a great deal of accuracy and restrain. I mean come on, it isn’t easy to target building like they have and not have incidental damage and deaths, yet the Lebanese Prime Minister complains about 380 dead.

But the visit was tense. Saniora angrily laid out the damage to his country, including about 380 people killed and about 750,000 displaced, and said the Israeli bombing had set Lebanon back 50 years, the prime minister’s office said. (see Story)

I wonder how many incidental deaths there would be if it was the vaunted United States doing the air strikes and shelling? Few thousand perhaps?

Don’t get me wrong, any deaths are horrible, but let’s call a spade a spade. The deaths of Lebanese and those rushing to hide in Syria is due to Hezbollah attacks and worse, Lebanese Government inaction. If anyone is truly to blame for these deaths it really is the Lebanese government.

It seems to just come back down to the simple fact. The USA is once again meddling. Why don’t they do something right and force Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah. I mean not like they are careful on where their rockets land, now are they?

More than 80 rockets crashed into northern Israel as of Monday evening, wounding about 20 people, the military said. The rockets again touched off brush fires, turning the clear summer sky gray with smoke in the town of Kiryat Shemona, which was hit by a heavy barrage in the afternoon. ( see Story )

I suppose this is what they mean when they talk about the Fog of War. I wonder though, if it wasn’t a bunch of Jews doing the attacking, would the USA be so genial with Lebanon? Maybe the Lebanese Prime Minister bought Bush a new sweater like Tony Blair did?
