What Does It Take?

December 15th, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in Bite Me!, Ramble On

Shake your head a little and ask yourself, what does it take for people to understand that anyone persecuted, bullied, or vilified, is deserving of protection and that if schools fail to teach tolerance, to teach differences, how can society survive? Seriously, you can hate me because I am gay, you can believe I will burn in eternal damnation even, but that does not give you the right to attack, to bully, to denegrade me or others like me.

I am different, so?

Another battle looms in the court system of whether a GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) club can be formed in a high school. The School says no, because well they are mandated to teach abstinence and that marriage is about a male and female. Like that might be the sex education requirement from some neanderthal government, but it isn’t nature.

But school district attorney David Gibbs says that the Equal Access Act can’t be used in the case of a GSA and furthermore Florida law requires schools to teach abstinence, “while teaching the benefits of monogamous heterosexual marriage.” (see Story)

Schools are supposed to be about learning, not about repeating what some zealot believes or thinks. It is about educating kids and to show them that what might be their view, their belief, it doesn’t always make it right or what others might belief. It is through that quest for knowledge, for what makes the differences, that bridges gaps, that allows for hatred to diminish and for understanding to flourish.

This isn’t Iraq or Tehran, it is North America. Surely in todays world, hatred because of religious beliefs should not be allowed to impeach the ability of schools to teach. Those times supposedly ended in the Middle Ages, but it appears that they are making a comeback. Personally I have no problem with these people demanding abstinence, but I do have a problem with those who deny me the right to offer an alternative. It doesn’t bother me that someone believes I will rot in Hell, because in my own heart I know they are wrong. I could be, but that belief of mine, it doesn’t hurt them or me.

Denying the meeting of groups like the GSA while allowing Christian Groups to meet only foster racist attitudes and views. It shows clearly that one is superior to the other, and that isn’t Democracy or even Freedom. That is tyranny and hatred and when did schools become teachers of those traits?

The school allows a number of extracurricular clubs – including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Key Club, and the Rodeo team – to meet regularly on school grounds. (see Story)

Have you ever wondered why there is so much hatred in the world? Ever think that it is because when we should be building bridges, we are instead burning them? This is one of those, burning the bridges issues, and last time it happened, it led to a lot of Cross Burnings.

Wonder what they will use this time around?

No One Admits It

November 26th, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in Bite Me!, Ramble On, World View

Statistics are funny little numbers. I mean it is interesting to see how many quote stats to defend a position or to claim why something isn’t being done. Granted, in some instances it is more of a perception than reality but you know, it does make you wonder at times. Specially when it comes to hate crimes like Gay Bashing.

Given that the USA is on a holy war against Gays it seems interesting to note that even the Gay Mecca, San Francisco has resorted to street patrols in order to keep the streets save for residents. The one place in America where gays can walk holding hands, kiss and just be themselves now needs street patrols.

Ordinarily the pair might look as though they are members of a team on their way to a team function.  But they are part of a new community street patrol aimed at stomping out homophobic attacks before they can get violent. (full story)

Naturally the police say crime isn’t on the rise, but then too the United States doesn’t think Gay Bashing is a hate crime. They don’t think that bullying and name calling warrants adding attacks on Gays as part of their hate crime measures. So I suppose it is no wonder that police don’t believe attacks on Gays is on the rise. Somehow though makes you wonder why they held a special meeting and why street patrols now exist, with police officers in attendance.

Part of the possible problem too is that Gays are reluctant to report the assaults. After all who wants to tell some blue suit that two guys or three took off after them. We all now the defence too, these red neck bullies will claim the lone gay guy came on to them. Seems that is what works in America.  Given that, why would Gays report it?

Sad part is that in not reporting it, it also makes us feel more ashamed. I mean it is like we are being driven back to hiding who we are, not from just the political rhetoric, but from real fear. I mean it is like Gays are the group to hate above all others. It just seems that is the mission too, and what I guess has me most upset is that it is the religious orders who are leading that charge. This is not a message to send to young gays and yet we somehow seem powerless to stop this rushing tide of hatred and anger.

Look at the front runners for President in 2008. Other than Guillano, the rest all oppose equal rights for gays, including Clinton and Obama. So I mean, it is like the left and right are united together in insuring that we are kept in our closets. Sad state of affairs when same sex marriage is sanctioned in South Africa and Spain, yet good old America is rushing to pass amendments to deny it.

Interesting how two countries which share a common language and a huge border can be so different. I mean Dave and I routinely go shopping and hold hands. He and I even kiss at times in the local grocery store and no, we don’t live in a predominently gay district like San Francisco has the Castro. So it is strange to me to fathom how there can be such a difference.

And yet every single American politician calls the USA, the Greatest Democracy EverHow sad.

Who IS Paying The Bills

November 1st, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in Bite Me!, Ramble On, World View

No not in your household, but when you see polls and the results these polls claim are representative of the populace, you should be asking some pertinent questions. Naturally the first question to be asked is who is paying for the poll in the first place?

Take the recent COMPAS poll in Canada that supposedly says that the majority of us think its okay to discriminate against Gays, or that civil servants should not be required to perform the job they signed on for in regards to marrying same sex couples.

The COMPAS poll for the Institute for Canadian Values which opposes gay marriage found that 57 percent of those surveyed said marriage officiants should be allowed the choice of whether or not to “officiate at gay marriages,” provided there are enough marriage commissioners available for same-sex unions. ( full story )

The clue to this poll results being suspect is who has paid for it. They are a group who oppose civil rights and have paid for the poll. Makes you wonder what the terms were but as you read the article, you can see that it is designed to create the results it did generate.

Which leads up to the next two questions people should ask when seeing these type of polls. Second is to know what the questions asked are and third, who were the participants? I mean were they randomly selected from Stephen Harper’s church or were they taken from a cross section of people on the voting register? Kind of makes a difference you know.

This poll shows me one clear thing though. It shows me that Stephen Harper and his band of Klansmen supporters are reaching closer to donning their white sheets. This is racism at its lowest as they attempt to justify their bigotry and hatred. It is a good tactic, least for George Bush so it is obvious given who Harper’s chief adviser is. After all he did run such a group in the states, and now is up here pushing American Values on Canadians.

Being Gay all my adult life, in that it took me a bit to come to terms with it, I have not encountered the blind hatred or racism that exists south of the Border. It is this tolerance of differences that makes Canada great, something Stephen Harper and his Klan are attempting to destroy.

Hate is a horrid thing, yet Stephen Harper and his Klan want to foster it, promote it, all in the name of their GOD. Well I think Canadians are smarter than that, and frankly I am surprised at how readily many Americans have fallen into this KKK ploy. Let’s take a step back and realize, GOD is not a GOD of hate, and if he is, if he is as Stephen Harper and George Bush claim, then I for one want nothing to do with such a diety. I cannot accept that GOD is one of hatred, of bigotry and elitism.

I choose to believe in a GOD of love, but that aside, both myself and Stephen Harper acknowledge that GOD created mankind, so if I am a defect as Harper and his Klan state, if I am a sinner by choice because I live the way GOD created me, then Harper and his Klan are in effect saying GOD screwed up. They are daring to question HIS plan, HIS creations, because of something they simply cannot accept or understand. I am who GOD made me, not by some choice or freak of genetic engineering but by GOD’s DESIGN.

Maybe it is time people like Harper and Bush looked within themselves to see how their hatred has poisoned them. Maybe it is time the electorate helped them see that but utterly ignoring them and relicating them to the backwaters of political oblivion. In the states, one week from today you Americans have that chance. To vote for any Republican is a vote for Racism and Bigotry, so if you believe in Equality, in GOD, think long and hard before you cast a vote for people who hate, who despise differences, who in essence HATE YOU!

Absurdity of Homophobia

Taking the high Moral Road is what some do when they say Gays do not need Marraige, they have Civil Unions and other means of being protected. In fact they even say its not a Federal Issue but is up to the individual States to determine. Nice words, sounds good on a 20 second sound bite on the local television news, but is also bullshit.

Take the instance here of Democrat Congressman Studds who was the first open gay congressman back in the time where equality was not even up for debate. He died and today the United States denied his legal spouse the rights to his survivors pension from all those years Studds served in Congress. ( full story ) What perhaps makes this even more ludicrous is that the law denying Studd’s legal husband these benefits is one passed and signed into law by Bill Clinton, not George Bush.

Go Figure huh?

So much for the claim by Democrats that they support equal rights for Gays. Just more poltical bullshit from obvious masters at deception, lies, and hatred. But hey it gets better because you see, legally married Gays are not only second class citizens, even when they do things legally, but are even below those who knowingly and admittingly commit fraud.

In short convicted Felons rate higher with the US Government than a Gay congressman’s legal spouse.

Republican Congressman Ney plead guilty for conspiracy and taking bribes and is facing 10 years in prison. But hey, not like that’s a big deal as he will continue to collect his Congressional Pension while doing time for abusing the system, for selling his votes while the same sex partner of Studds will collect NOTHING!

And this is Democracy that George Bush wishes to bring to the world? I’ll Pass Thank You!

Thank You Pope Intolerance

October 9th, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in Bite Me!, Ramble On, World View

I think it is only fitting that we all get down on our knees and thank His Holiness, Pope Benedict (Pope Intolerance) for helping to make this a kindler, gentler, world. After all we all need to know that GOD loves us all, and you certainly have given voice to that over the last little while haven’t you? I mean your comments about Islam and Muslims is merely a mis conception taken out of context, and your support for those political leaders who practise GODs passion for Freedom is well documented these days, so again, Thank You.

Of course he doesn’t mean the hateful things he says, after all he is sorry some of the time. Course when it comes to us Gays having equal rights, well that just isn’t in the cards. After all homosexuality is a social trend, nothing else, and it is a social trend he wants stamped out, in the name of Traditional Family Values.

Odd these are the same values that Stephen Harper and his Master, George Bush subscribe to. The values that have let Bush lie about WMD in Iraq and justify an invasion of a soverign nation. It is those values that led him to seek a ban on same sex marraige and cause an increase in Gay Bashing. It is these same values that have led to Republicans denying anti bullying laws or courses from being inacted, because well there are still about a third of school kids that haven’t been verbally abused or taken part in it yet. Course with so many kids shooting up their schools, no need for anti bullying laws or courses is there?

Under GODs name, so much hypcrisy exists today that it hard to tell where the bullshit starts or ends. Take the Mark Foley case, that is centred now on when did they all know about his penchant for young kids. I mean seriously, while they should focus on that, you would think there would be a damn site more about how to deal with the abused kids than who knew what, when? So much for protecting kids, just one more bullshit cause the Republicans and their coalition of Family Value hypocrites have hijacked.

There are serious issues and comments by Pope Intolerance only allow more evil to happen. Real evil, not made up bullshit about Gays and their secret little agendas. The evil that is being done to kids today by the Mark Foleys of the world is nothing to what these religious zealots are doing to the very generation coming up today. The way they twist their minds to parrot the parents and their relgiious hypocrisy is amazing. Anti Bully courses, teaching aids like showing differences and minorities is suddenly the latest target by these foaming religious fanatics who have clearly forgotten who GOD is, never mind what HE is about.

The sad part of all this, is that while there are many talking about dealing with Pedophiles, about protecting children, these supporters are the ones doing the abusing, and having their buddies cover it all up. As is the case of Mark Foley but worse is the parents who lead court action to insure that Hate is allowed where their kids are taught. As in the case of Georgia Tech.

Keystone Cops Part 2?

August 30th, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in Bite Me!, Ramble On

Okay, so this John Karr didn’t do it? His DNA is not a match to what they have on file so no charges against him in the Jon Bonnet Ramsey murder, and I wonder, they couldn’t have checked that in Thailand?

In a news conference in Boulder, Lacy and staff members from the Boulder County district attorney’s office addressed how DNA evidence released Monday showed Karr could not have committed the killing he confessed to when he was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, earlier this month. (full story)

I mean they couldn’t have taken samples there and flown those to the States prior to shipping him over at taxpayer expense?

Then too I have to wonder at some of the statements made until they dropped the bombshell about him not matching the DNA. You know, the one’s where he had supposedly given them details that had never been released to anyone, including the Ramsey’s?  So how did he find those out or did he make some lucky guess?

In watching this case unfold years ago, people kept referring to the Boulder police and DA as the new Keystone Cops, and now one has to wonder, is this part two?

So Karr will be sent to California to face misdemeanor charges while escaping harsher penalties in Thailand. That was of course one sentiment given and shouted down when he was first arrested, and one has to wonder, did Karr play Colorado for suckers?

Bet the news media are pretty ticked off. I mean suddenly they lose out on what might have been the court case of the year and super duper television ratings because Colorado once more goofed.

I wonder, will they ever catch the killer? Or will there be a part three to this whole affair?

The Perversion of Innocense

August 21st, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in Bite Me!, Ramble On

There has been a great deal of talk lately about Pedophiles and the case of child porn online. The New York Times is just one major news media outfit that is investigating this abhorrent misuse of the Internet. Yet in doing so they have also glossed over a great many real facts about the Adult Industy on line.

The current article, perhaps inspired in part by the Jon Bonnet Ramsey case, is that child modeling sites are a new bred of site aimed at the scourge of our society, the Pedophile. There is a portion of that article that got me thinking.

Based on the images and wording from online advertisements, the sites show toddlers wearing tight thongs, and slightly older children posing evocatively while wearing makeup and feather boas. ( New York Times Article )

What got me is the end of that paragraph. Given all the hype lately of the supposed killer of Jon Bonnett being caught, there have been tons of photographs of her on the television. Now seems to me she is dolled up just as this article describes.

Which makes me wonder, when is it indecent and when is it wrong to take a child and doll them up like the Ramsey’s did?

Personally I don’t think they were involved in her death directly, but in dressing her up like they did, in enabling her to be seen publicly like that, they drew attention to her that more than likely lead to her death. At the same time, how can we demand a safer internet from sites promoting those same type of pictures and yet not go after the parents who enable this behaviour?

If dressing up a child in provocative clothing is wrong for use online, surely it is just as wrong to do it on a stage for a pageant? How can it not be?

And there is what the article perhaps misses out on. Just as it did in its celebrated Justin Berry case, where this alleged victim scored hundred of thousands of dollars of gifts and cash while a minor.

The Ramsey’s kept insisting that this is what Jon Bonnett wanted to do, that it was her desire and goal yet I wonder, who is the parent here, the child or the adults? Maybe she did really want to play dress up in that way, but surely the adults in the family should have said No as should other parents in similar circumstances.

I suppose part of this is that we put too much stress on beauty and on being recognized as such. Look at the televison commercials for shampoo or cars, or hell even feminine hygeine products, and tell me it isn’t designed to make a person feel a bit of a sexual urge? Yet that is legal and showing the same online isn’t?

More double standards it would seem to me.

I also think that while an adult is just that, and should be held accountable, a child can easily manipulate a willing adult. As is the case in the Justin Berry case, least in my opinion. Yet he is being held up as a prime victim but at best, he was a willing victim. To claim otherwise pushed the realm of credability, in my view.

So it would seem to me we are once more rushing into the dark regions of law simply to appease the moral indignation of some, without looking at the whole picture. Yes pedophiles are going to be attracted to this type of behaviour, but if we as a society allow it, then aren’t we also asking for that unwarranted attention?

If we truly wish to make it hard for creeps like pedophiles, then let’s make it a real attempt. Let us end the showcasing of our children in lewd outfits totally. Yes that include the pampers commercials and let us let kids be kids for a change.

Many won’t agree with me, but do we need to see kids in diapers to know that Pampers is super absorbant. Or the CanDoo commercials where a toddler is on the toilet smiling with his/her pants down at the ankles? Let’s face it, the commercials aren’t for kids, but to get adults to buy for the kids. So why are we showcasing innocent kids in compromising positions in commercials and then bitching when they are shown in similar conditions online?

Just more of a witch hunt I would think. For myslef, I believe no child should be shown on television or online in anything but fully clothed and in normal day to day activities like playing football, baseball, or such. We don’t need to see kids in underwear prancing around to tell us that they will enjoy the cartoon characters on them.

Let’s get real here. Apply some common sense for a change and end this cycle of abuse by limiting the ability for parents to exploit their own kids. No more Jon Bonnett’s please… one childs death is enough.
